Building
Redevelopment update
We
have been granted an extended lease area which now includes the area
from the walkway fence line to the
carpark area. There was
to be a meeting on 29th of June with Council to discuss
the Contract – more on that to follow. Chris
Donnelly and Tim Williamson have been a driving force in presenting
the Club’s case – many thanks to them and also to Chris Mooney,
Chairman of the Redevelopment Committee. Life Membership Tony Grima was awarded Life membership of the Hervey Bay Surf Lifesaving
club at the recent Club’s AGM. Tony has done a lot work in and
around the Club over the last 13 years and it was a great pleasure
to award this to him - well deserved.
SUPPORTERS CLUB - Matt Bean Hello
all, Back
again! I would
like to welcome to the committee Leanne Walsh as Treasurer, Peter
Walsh and Alf Green, who’s joining me again.
I believe Mark Thornton may be the bar fly again - will know
when he returns from NZ. Thank
you for your vote of confidence. For
the Supporters Club committee, we are still in need of a Secretary
and Uniform Officer, so if you are at all interested please talk to
me. They are not as
daunting as they sound and there will be lots of help and support. As
I have said many times before, I see the Supporters Club as the
social side of the SLSC, where patrolling members can socialise with
each other, their friends and family in safe and pleasant
surroundings. The other
is to provide the catering services for the club on Sunday mornings
and carnivals. During
my last stint as President we embarked, as a club (life saving and
supporters club), to see what sort of income the Supporters Club
could produce, with a view to financial support for future
extensions. This was
quite successful financially, and one doozey of a ride due to the
extraordinary efforts of a very good crew.
However, it was very telling on the members and this idea is
unsustainable. A
side effect of this exercise was an expectation for the Supporters
Club to produce ex amount of funds for the HBSLSC.
These expectations have produced unfair workloads and have
made it difficult to find volunteers.
It has also seen the real purpose of why the Supporters Club
was originally formed, forgotten. Following
discussions with members (lifesaving and supporters, committee and
non committee) before the AGM, and with future discussions to be
had, our aims will be to provide the services required without the
financial pressures, and
with a much wider contribution of help and support from across the
club. We have a lovely little family orientated club in a great spot
and we should ALL get to
enjoy it. The
Supporters Club committee will be endeavouring to produce a
procedure of operations that is both functional, practical and user
friendly. This can then be a base for future committees to work
around, but be able to adjust to their own requirements.
We encourage and support anyone who wishes to contribute in
any way throughout the season. The
Supporters Club should be a place of enjoyment for members on both
sides of the counter. Every
little bit helps - after all the more helpers the lesser the work
load, and the more time to enjoy what we are all there for. Here’s
to a good year and see you there. Matt

be open at 5pm. Thank
you.
Below are the proud sponsors of the Hervey Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. Without these sponsors we would not be able to provide the range of activities that we do. Please support those that support us.
